BEST LETTER OF THE WEEK

171 Elies Road, 25th October, 1940 Dear Cousin Betty, I am writing about my pet budgie. His name is Peter and he is a darling. He will come up and kiss me. We let him out in the kitchen for his daily fly around. We are trying to teach him to talk. I have just had a dear little bantam hen given to me. I hope it will be fine for Labour Day. The blossom on the apple trees is very pretty just now. Your loving cousin, Leslie Ramage. Mossburn. Dear Cousin Betty, I am enclosing the story of the Runaway Balloon. I have had a trip to town with Mum and Dad and Lavinia. I Jiave had a holiday from school, and have been helping dad on the lorry. We have a budgie called Peter and I am teaching him to talk. Last Sunday I was out at a friend’s place, where I saw a beautiful peacock with its fail spread wide out, and it had green spots on it. The peacock’s tail spread is ten feet across and six feet high. I also saw a Chinese Pheasant with its beautiful gold and red colourings. This is all the news this week. Your cousin, William Blatch.
