LUMSDEN
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY The committee of the Lumsden Horticultural Society held a meeting recently when the balance-sheet of the spring show was presented. The secretary reported that there was a number of members’ subscriptions still outstanding and the society would be getting into financial difficulties if these were not paid promptly in future. Mr H. Graham presided, in the absence of Mrs W. Young, the president, over a fair attendance, of members. At the produce stall the sum of £6 -19/6 was raised and this, together with a donation of £l/10/6 from the society, is to be handed over to the London relief fund. A letter was received from Mr F. Aitken, the judge at the recent show, referring to the high standard of exhibits of local growers at the show. SOCIAL EVENING A pleasant social evening was spent at the residence of Dr and Mrs L. G. [Bell by members of the Lumsden Drama Group to farewell Mrs B. Sims, who is leaving the district. Every member of the group gave an item and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Mr E. R. Latham thanked Dr and Mrs Bell for their hospitality and called on Mr E. Wildey to make a presentation of a pyrex casserole to the guest of the evening. Mrs Bell and Mr Moffitt also spoke, expressing regret at losing such a valuable member. Mrs Sims responded.
