OBITUARY

MR THOMAS RUDDIMAN (Special to The Times) DUNEDIN, July 17. _ The death occurred suddenly this evening of Mr Thomas Ruddiman, who was well known in insurance circles in Dunedin and who had had a long and notable connection with the game of Association football in Otago. Mr Ruddiman was born in Scotland 60 years ago and on completing his education entered the insurance business. After some experience in Scotland he was sent out to Australia and later came to Dunedin as manager of the London and Lancashire Insurance Company, a position that he occupied at the time of his death. He was an executive member of the Otago and Southland Underwriters’ Association. Sport, and particularly association football, claimed Mr Ruddiman’s attention. He had played for two first league clubs in Scotland, Glasgow Rangers and the Queen’s Park Club, and on his arrival at Dunedin he joined the Northern Club. He was a valued member of that club’s first eleven and also represented Otago on several occasions. Mr Ruddiman took a prominent part in the administrative, side of the game, and at the time of his death was a vice-president of the New Zealand Football Association and of the Otago Football Association, of which he was a member for many years. Mr Ruddiman also played cricket and was a member of the Carisbrook Club. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
