MARIST AND PIRATES SUCCESSFUL

The first games in the second round of the Galbraith Shield competition, played at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon were decided in wet and cold conditions. The No. 1 area at Rugby Park was in a bad state, but the players rose above the conditions and produced some excellent wet-weather football.

The highlight of the fixtures was Bluff’s convincing victory over the hitherto unbeaten Invercargill team. Bluff outplayed Invercargill in the forwards and won a game brimful of exciting incident by 21 points to 5. Marist defeated Old Boys and Pirates narrowly won against Star. Saturdays’ results brought Invercargill and Marist together again at the top of the championship, with Bluff, Old Boys and Pirates close up to the leaders.
