“PEACE NEWS”

To The Editor

Sir,—The attitude of the library committee to “Peace News” is most disappointing. That little British paper was not revolutionary, disloyal, disruptive, or subversive. It is obvious that its publication and circulation is still permitted in Britain. What are wc fighting for anyway? If the library committee is to be consistent it must heave from its shelves such anti-war books as “The Great Illusion” by Norman Angell, “Cry Havoc” and “The Fool Hath Said” by Beverley Nichols, “Ordeal in England” and other books by Sir Philip Gibbs, “Spears Against Us” by Cecil Roberts, and many other books all advocating peace. Finally let the library committee remove the figure representing Justice from the front of the building and stick an effigy of Mars on the parapet.— Yours, etc., SANITY. June 27,1940.
