ENLISTMENTS IN SOUTHLAND

EIGHTEEN ’RECRUITS YESTERDAY

TERRITORIAL CAMP AT ADDINGTON

Eighteen recruits enlisted at the Invercargill Army Office yesterday. Five of the names were not available for publication. The others were:— SINGLE L. S. Hall. C. W. Martin. F. P. Sanders. H. J. Russell. N. D. Donaldson. G. Sampson. G. C. Meffin. R. J. Hopgood. G. E. Wybrow. I. C.' Ronald. MARRIED G. G. King. W. C. Hill. J. Stewart. TERRITORIALS FOR CAMP About 100 officers and non-commis-sioned officers of the Southland Regiment will go into camp at Addington, Christchurch, next Tuesday. They will begin training under the new territorial scheme and will be in camp for varying periods up to five months. A total of about 600 men for camp will include officers and non-commis-sioned officers of the 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Field Company New Zealand Engineers, Ist Battalion Nel-son-Marlborough-West Coast Regiment, Ist Battalion Southland Regiment, and the Christchurch and Dunedin Scottish Companies, and the instructional staff.

The men will be quartered in buildings at the Addington trotting grounds and the Addington show grounds and will carry out a two-months’ course of training. Co-operation between the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, the Trotting Association and the military authorities has been the means of overcoming many difficulties in bringing the territorial training scheme into operation, and though the trotting grounds will be occupied during August, there will be no serious interference with the arrangements for the trotting meeting in that month.
