LATE NEWS

JAPAN TO START BLOCKADE

Stoppage Of Goods

From China

APPROACH TO GERMAN GOVERNMENT

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) Received June 28, 2 a.m.) HONG KONG, June 27. '

Authorities confirmed that Japan will establish a blockade on July 3 to prevent goods from reaching China. The Japanese Foreign Minister (Mr Hachiro Arita) has instructed a Japanese diplomat who is visiting Berlin to discuss the question of closer economic relations with the German Government.

Private reports from Hong Kong received in Manila said that the Japanese blockade was worrying the residents, a number of whom are reported to be planning to send their families to Manila.

The death has occurred of Rear-Ad-miral C. G. Dobson who won the Victoria Cross when on August 18,1919, he led a flotilla of coastal motor-boats against the Bolshevik fleet at Kronstadt, torpedoing several warships. General Weygand, in an order of the day to the French Army, says: “Our honour is saved. We retain indestructible confidence in the destiny of France. Keep united and be confident in your leaders.”

Nearly all Rumanian airlines have been suspended. The correspondent of the Associated Press of America attributes the suspension of the air service to Bessarabia to a reported clash between Rumanian and Russian aeroplanes. According to reports from Cernauti four Russian aeroplanes were fired on near there. One was shot down. The others were reported to have bombed a nearby village.

It is claimed that at least two more German aeroplanes were brought down in raids over Britain last night. Early today raiders dropped bombs in the north-east and east of England, but there were few casualties, mostly from shock. The bombers hid behind heavyclouds, which the searchlights could not penetrate. A man and his daughter had a remarkable escape when a bomb struck a garage adjoining their house. The garage was completely destroyed and the motor-car scattered in pieces over a large area. In the south-eastern area the raiders got a hot reception. Red flashes from tracer bullets and bursting anti-aircraft shells made a startling display. One bomb shattered a terrace of houses. A man in No. 13 was thrown from his bed and hurled against a door, but he suffered only shock.
