PURSUANT to the provisions of the Counties’ Act, 1920 and the Rating Act, 1925 and amendments ‘"thereto PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that it is the intention of the Southland County’ Council to make on Friday the 12th day of July, 1940, for the period commencing on the Ist day of April, 1940 and ending on the 31st day of March, 1941 on the unimproved value of all the rateable property on the valuation rolls in respect of Ridings as under, a General Rate of:— One penny and three-fourths of a penny (ljd) in the £ in the outlying district of the Waihopai Riding, and Seven-eighths pence (Id) in the £ in the Edendale Town District in Waihopai Riding. One penny and three-fourths of a penny (IJd) in the £ in the Awarua

Riding. Two pence (2d) in the £ in the Wallacetown Riding. One penny and three-eighths of a penny (Igd) in the £ in the Winton Riding. Pursuant to Section 52 of the Hospital & Charitable Institutions Act, 1926, a Hospital & Charitable Aid Rate of seven-sixteenths of a penny (7/16d) in the £ on the capital value of all the rateable property in the County. Pursuant to the provisions of Section 125 of the Counties’ Act, 1920 a uniform annual charge for the purpose of providing for the expenses of removal of house refuse (nightsoil and ashes) in the Waikiwi Sanitary Area and in the Hawthorndale Sanitary Area, of One pound three shillings and six pence (£l/3/6) for nightsoil and Twelve shillings and six pence (12/6) for ashes removal. A rebate of One shilling and one penny (1/ld) for nightsoil and nine pence (9d) for ashes removal charges to be allowed if paid on or before the 31st day of August, 1940. Septic tank installations will be the same as the annual charge for nightsoil removal, viz. One pound three shillings and six pence (£l/3/6) less One shilling and one penny (1/ld) if paid on or before the 31st day of August, 1940. The annual charge for a weekly service or double pan service Two pounds and ten pence (£2/0/10) less Two shillings and one penny (2/ld) rebate if paid on dr before the 31st day of August, 1940. All the aforementioned rates and annual charges are due'and payable in one sum at the Offices of the Southland County Council, Tay Street, Invercargill on the 14th day of August, 1940. The valuation rolls are now onen for inspection at the Council Chambers, Tay Street, Invercargill during office hours. Pursuant to Section 28 of the Finance Act, 1927 (No. 2) the Council proposes to make and levy on Friday, the 12th day of July, 1940, a timber rate in respect of standing trees cut in the County and converted from the log into sawn timber, a General Rate of one>-half penny (|d) per 100 feet board measure on timber so converted in that year, such’ rate being payable in one sum on the Ist day of April, 1941. An additional charge of ten per cent, shall be added to all rates which remain unpaid after Wednesday, the 19th day of March, 1941. Dated at Invercargill this 27th day of June, 1940. H. C.
