CONTRIBUTION TO WAR EFFORT

INTEREST-FREE LOAN MADE BY WORKERS’ UNION

WELLINGTON, June 27.

The annual conference of the New Zealand/Workers’ Union opened in Wellington on June 19 and ended on June 24. Two decisions of an important nature dealing with the union’s .contribution to the war effort were arrived at unanimously by the delegates. They are:— (1) An appeal is to be issued to all officials, organizers and members to give a day’s pay to support the Government’s war effort, and the whole of the proceeds from the appeal are to be forwarded to the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash). (2) That the union lend to the New Zealand Government, free of interest, £5OOO for the duration of the war and six months afterwards, a cheque for . which has been forwarded to Mr Nash.
