GIFT OF PLANES

To The Editor

Sir, —“Just One New Zealand Woman” made a sensible suggestion when she advocated spending a large proportion of our patriotic funds on aeroplanes, and it might surprise her if she knew just how many persons are thinking along the same lines. I was pleased to see in today’s paper a letter by George A. Hamilton offering £lOO to start a fund to buy fighting planes. Money does not flow easily my way, but I will find £lO to help such a purpose. Patriotic funds do not win wars—they only help to make them more comfortable. The kindest thing we can do for our soldiers today is to see that they are well equipped. Plenty of fighting planes could prevent an invasion of Britain, and without a doubt we have the best pilots in the world.

These men will fight to the death for us. Then let us work our fingers to the bone to help them.—Yours, etc., R. J. CLEARWATER. June 25, 1940.
