BAY DUKE NOT TO RACE AGAIN

WINNER OF £1786/10/- IN STAKES It has been decided to retire Bay Duke from racing and the Diacquenoa gelding will spend the remainder of his days in retirement. Although he has not always been sound, Bay Duke has compiled an excellent record, having won 14 races and been eight times placed for £1786/10/- in stakes. Had he remained sound- he would probably have proved himself one of the best sprinters in the country as he won races in the best company available. Bay Duke was purchased in the North Island by the late Mr G. Bain, of Riverton, who secured Bay Biddy at the same time. Mr Bain raced and trained Bay Duke until his death two years ago while this season he raced for Mrs C. Bain, for whom R. McNay trained him. As a seven-year-old Bay Duke broke down badly and it was thought that he would never race again but after an absence of 12 months he stood up to a solid preparation this season and won three races and was twice placed in 12 starts. His record is as follows: —
