WOMEN’S DIVISION

INVERCARGILL.— Mrs R. A. Riddle presided at the monthly meeting which was attended by more than 30 members. Motions of sympathy with two members were passed. Members expressed thankfulness that the 2nd Echelon had ax-rived safely in Britain. Wool for knitting and hussifs to be made up were distributed. A good collection of articles was received for patriotic parcels. Mrs Evans had printed a number of excellent recipes; these were on sale at the meeting. Mrs Martin demonstrated the making of cushions. On behalf of members Mrs Henderson thanked Mrs Martin for her kindness. Mrs Powell was the winner of the best bloom competition with Miss Buckingham second. The baking competition resulted: Mrs Randle 1, Mrs Middlemiss 2.

EDENDALE.— There was a comparatively good attendance at the monthly meeting. Mrs McLeod presided and one new member was elected. The roll call, “Items of interest from the daily newspaper,” met with a good response. The inauguration of an exchange table at the monthly meetings is to be given a trial this year. A gift was presented to Mrs Officer, who is leaving the district, by the president. Mrs McKenzie, Waikoikoi, a pioneer member and a new vice-president of the Otago executive, gave an interesting talk on the work of the division, for which she was thanked by Miss Dobbie. As a result of the competition for a clxild’s knitted vest, 12 vests were handed over to the Edendale branch of the Red Cross Society. The prizewinners were:—Miss D. Pow 1, Mrs Morris 2, Mrs Geddes 3. The competition for the best chrysanthemum resulted:—Mrs Lamont 1, Miss D. Pow 2, and Mrs Morris 3.

TUSSOCK CREEK.— Mrs W. Shaw presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Tussock Creek branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. An invitation to the Wrights Bush birthday party was received. The roll-call, ‘'The household task I most dislike,” met with a good response. Mrs C. Buxton gave the first of a series of lectures on home nursing. The day’s competitions resulted: Soldier’s knitted scarf, Mrs J. Macpherson 1, Miss Lightfoot 2, Mrs C. Campbell 3. Best bloom, Mrs P. Adamson 1, Miss I. Adamson 2, .Miss 0. Adamson 3.
