PRICES FOR FAT STOCK

Increase For Sheep

And Cattle

KEENER DEMAND RESULT OF SMALL YARDINGS

Because of the scarcity of feed and the fact that the freezing works have closed, there were no store sheep yarded yesterday at the Lorneville stock sale. It was the first time for two years that this has happened. There was an exceptionally small yarding of fat sheep and competition was consequently keenei- with the result that prices generally improved to the extent of about 4/- a head on last week’s rates. Prime heavy wethers brought to 38/— and prime ewes to 31/6. There was also a small entry of fat cattle and bullocks were in short supply. Values which in the early part of the sale were about 10/- a head better than those ruling last week but declined somewhat in the latter stages. The following is a table showing the comparative yardings at the last two sales:—

Prime heavy wethers brought to 38/-; good quality wethers from 34/- to 36/-; medium 30/— to 32/-; light and unfinished 26/- to 27/6.
