OBITUARY
mr john McDonald The death has occurred of Mr John McDonald at Riverton at the age of 92 years. Mr McDonald was born at Mull, in Scotland, in 1849. When he was quite young, his widowed mother brought her family of five girls and three boys to New Zealand, and they landed at Port Chalmers. In his young days Mr McDonald was engaged in bush-ranging and stock dealing. He was in the gold mining rush around Arrowtown, Switzers and Maystown. He was married in Invercargill to Isabella, the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs M. Coulston, of Appleby, Westmoreland, England. Mr and Mrs McDonald settled at Spar Bush, where Mr McDonald farmed on his own account. After selling this farm, he took up residence in Wallacetown. About 1900 he took up farming at Taramoa, successfully farming there on his own account until 1927, when he retired to Riverton. Mr McDonald is survived by three daughters, Mrs W. Christy-(Pahia), Mrs R. Kelly (Wellington), Mrs W. Stroud (Invercargill) and two sons, Mr D. McDonald (Wellington) and Mr T. McDonald (Winton).
