LARGER ACREAGE WANTED

APPEAL MADE TO WHEAT GROWERS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 20. An appeal to wheat growers where possible to put in more wheat, even if only a few acres, was made by the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) in a statement tonight. “As I am leaving soon for Australia,” said Mr Sullivan, “where I will be discussing matters affecting munitions and supply, I am addressing this appeal to wheat growers.” The Minister referred to the fact that the weather during May had had an adverse effect on the wheat sowing in some districts, and in others land prepared for wheat had to be used for green feed. Many growers, he said, had land prepared for other crops which could easily be sown in wheat this month. Ample supplies of seed and manure were available and the conservation of shipping space though adequate wheat supplies in the Dominion should not be overlooked. The time to act was now, said Mr Sullivan. It was work like this that would win the war.
