WAIHOPAI CLUB’S MEETING NEW RINKS COMPETITION A decision to inaugurate a rinks competition in compliance with the wish of the late Mr George Stevens was made by the Waihopai Bowling Club at its annual meeting. Mr Stevens left a bequest to the club which was accepted with gratitude. The conditions of the competition will be completed at a special general'meeting of the club to be held in September. In the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr T. Bird, the senior vicepresident, Mr W. J. Duncan, presided at the meeting. There was an attendance of 23 members. The chairman referred to the loss which the club had suffered through the death of three members, Messrs J. C. Imlay, A. Lindsay and G. T. Stevens. A motion of sympathy with their relations was passed. Trophies were presented to the following members: Champion singles, H. Miller; champion doubles, E. Dawson and R. G. Morrison; handicap doubles, J. H. Tapper and W. J. Duncan. The champion rinks competition was won by G. R. Baxter, H. S. Young, A. E. Broad and R. G. Speirs. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr W. J. Duncan; senior vice-president, Mr W. Bell; junior vice-president, Mr G. Tapper; secretary'-, Mr J. McKay; treasurer, Mr W. H. Boyes; selector, Mr R. G. Morrison; competitions supervisor, Mr L. Gray; delegates to Southland Bowling Centre, Messrs J. M. McKay and R. G. Morrison; delegates to the Sports Association, Messrs W. Bell and A. C. Wilson; stewards, Messrs W. H. Pickford and J. Robertson; social convener, Mr R. Callan; committee, Messrs A. C. Wilson, J. H. Tapper, A. W. Moore, E. Stout, A. Dalgarno, R. Callan and W. H. Pickford.

The club instructed its delegates to the centre to support the present system of champion-of-champion games being decided on the two-life principle. The donation of a set of quoits by Mr T. McFetrich was acknowledged with thanks. A comprehensive vote of thanks to those women who had assisted with the afternoon teas and to the Press for the publication of teams and results was moved by Mr J. H.
