NEW FREEZING WORKS
To The Editor Sir,—It was amusing to read the comment about the new freezing works at the annual conference of the Farmers’ Union. One member makes a few comments which he wants the new executive to examine. He is not worrying about the farmers who have to hold their stock for weeks after they have fattened them; he seems more interested in the dividends the present works pay. The necessity for a new works has been evident for years. Another member was very sympathetic about the 800,000 ewes which were bought at about 7/- and must have shown over 100 per cent, profit. I would like to know who gets the profits out of the difference between the schedule at the time of the opening of the works and that at present. Perhaps some of our M.P.’s could answer this. —Yours, etc., MEMBER’S SON. June 12, 1940.
