AFRICAN SPORTSMEN IN MILITARY FORCES
Two members of the South African Rugby Union team, the Springboks, who toured New Zealand in 1937, are in the forces. They are D. H. Craven, half-back, who is in the army, and T. A. Harris, five-eighths, who is a member of the Air Force. Smollan, another Rugby player, is in the Imperial Light Horse. Alan Melville, who captained South Africa in the cricket tests against England in 1938-39, and W. W. Wade, another test player, are in a Natal regiment. Bruce Mitchell, A. W. Briscoe, and R. Grieveson, test cricketers, are in the Transvaal Scottish. Robert Tisdall, a hurdler, is a lieutenant in the South African Irish.
