ROMNEY MARSH SHEEP SOLD

WAIMAHAKA EWES FOR HERIOT One of the most notable stud sheep transactions in the southern end of New Zealand for some time was the sale last week by the Waimahaka stud of A. S. Holms and Son of 52 stud Romney ewes to Mr A. T. Ottrey, Sherwood, Heriot, at a very high figure. The ewes which are all included in the No. 1 Flock of the New Zealand Romney Stud Book, comprise very special, strong-woolled, big-framed typical Romneys, and they are all in lamb to the well-known sire, Waitoru 132 of 36. In the selection of his purchases, which were arranged by Dalgety and Co, Heriot, Mr Ottrey insisted on bone as well as wool. Mr Ottrey’s intention in making the purchase is to ensure for himself an adequate supply of high-grade rams for the establishment of a new stud.
