“U-BOAT 29” COMES TO STATE
THRILLING ESPIONAGE DRAMA “U-Boat 29,” an exciting espionage drama and successor to “Clouds Over Europe,” begins a season at the State Theatre on Friday. It is a cleverly told and dramatically presented story of a battle of wits between German and British secret service agencies. A German submarine commander is given the hazardous task of landing on the British coast to obtain information concerning the movements of the British Fleet. Up to a point the plot succeeds, and the manner in which the designs of the Germans are finally frustrated makes thrilling and exciting entertainment. Conrad Veidt has the leading role, and opposite him is popular Valerie Hobson. The leading players have the support of a competent cast in the i subsidiary roles.
Andrea Leeds, who makes her first appearance on loan to 20th CenturyFox in “Swanee River,” has been signed by Darryl F. Zanuck to co-star with Warner Baxter in “Earthbound.” Miss Leeds is also scheduled to play a leading role in the technicolour film “Maryland,” at 20th Century-Fox.
