WIN FOR WAIAU SENIOR TEAM In cold, wintry weather, the Waiau senior team beat Otautau by 9 points to nil. The teams were:—
OTAUTAU.—J. Gillan, I. Pettit, M. Miller, V. Chilton, A. Waddell, R. Pettit, V. Hope; C. Hope, S. Muir, J. Brown, T. Smellie, D. Rogers, P. Chilton, A. Brown, A. Prisk. WAIAU. —R. Chamberlain, P. Knowler, G. Cleveland, W. Cleaver, L. Wilson, M. McKerchar, C. Calder, I. Buchanan; C. Knowler, B. Ogilvie, L. Brown, F. Craig, J. Daly, D. Ward, J. Denniston.
The first score came when L. Wilson kicked a penalty goal for Waiau. Although Waiau had Otautau on the defensive for most of the first half, neither side was able to ■ penetrate. Waiau led 3-0 at half-time. In the second half Otautau played better, but was unable to finish off movements. After a good passing rush by the Waiau backs W. Cleaver scored in the corner. The kick was unsuccessful. Waiau 6, Otautau 0. Towards the end of the game an Otautau player speculated, but M. McKerchar gathered in the ball and scored in the corner. His kick was unsuccessful. The final scores were:— Waiau 9, Otautau 0. Mr J. Mclntyre was the referee.
