AOTEAROA ARRIVES AT AUCKLAND
PASSENGERS AND MAIL CARRIED (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 17. The flying-boat Aotearoa arrived at Auckland from Sydney at 9.35 a.m., her flying time being 8 hours 3 minutes. Captain J. W. Burgess said that after remedying a hitch he made an hour’s trial flight. The Aotearoa carried three passengers. She ran into rain storms soon after her departure, but the passengers were then snugly in bed. The Aotearoa carried 4001 b o' mail and a large amount of freight. The Aotearoa was actually taking off early in the morning when Captain Burgess noticed that the starboard engine was consuming more oil than usual. He brought the.machine back to the base and informed the passengers of his intention to overhaul the engine. They cheerfully agreed to a postponement of the flight until midnight.
