ON INVERCARGILL TRACKS

SUSIE IS PROMISING NOVICE

WILD CAREER’S USEFUL MILE

Although the course proper provided heavy going some useful trials were carried out yesterday morning by candidates for the Southland Racing Club’s meeting at Invercargill. The poles were about 30 feet out. The efforts of Sea Lady, Wild Career, Waitoru, Susie, Cintilla and Black Bard impressed most. Spendthrift (Forde) and Colonel Rouge (Strathern) ran the last six of seven furlongs in Imin 24 4-ssec, the last half in 56 2-ssec. Both finished on strongly and were not troubled by the going. Sea Lady was responsible for an excellent effort in running seven furlongs in Imin 35 3-ssec, the last half in 57 2-ssec. She is very well at the present time. Cintilla (Humphries) and Black Bard (Barclay) were together at the end of six furlongs in Imin 21 4-ssec, the last half in 57sec. This represented a good gallop as both did it well. Heidelberg (G. Ellis) and Milford (Strathern) were not troubled to run a mile in Imin 59 4-ssec, finishing together. Bilbao (Preston) and Royal Lancer (Shaw) took Imin 27 3-ssec, to run six furlongs, the last half in 58 4-ssec. WILD CAREER PLEASES Wild Career (Humphries) beat Silkwood (Barclay) by a length over a mile in Imin 54 2-ssec, the first three in 42sec and the last half in 58 2-ssec. Wild Career handled the going in good style and came home strongly. Considering that she was meeting Wild Career about even weights Silkwood’s effort was a sound one while the conditions suited her. Waitoru (Humphries) and Aspire (Barclay) beat Susie (Shaw) by a length with Mona’s Song (Prestort) three or four lengths further back at the end of a mile in Imin 54 3-ssec, the first three in 42 3-ssec and the last half in 58 2-ssec. Aspire was at the rear most of the way but she moved up to

the leaders turning into the straight and was right up with Waitoru, who was doing his work under a good hold, at the post. Mona’s Song was unable to handle the track but Susie’s effort was most impressive as she was in the thick of it all the way. She has grown into a fine type of three-year-old and is a novice likely to win over some ground later on.

Ortyx (Voight) and Amelita (Strathern) were not troubled to run seven furlongs in lmin 40 l-ssec, the last half in 57 2-ssec. Amelita has gone on the right way since she won in her last start while Ortyx has been working in great style.

Pink Bond (Shaw) pulled hard in the early stages of a seven furlong bout with Blissful Lady (Barclay). Pink Bond, however, finished strongly and beat Blissful Lady rather comfortably by four lengths, but the last named is not a good track worker. The seven was run in Imin 36 2-ssec, the last half in 57 2-ssec.

Royal Money (G. Ellis) beat Wild Coon (Humphries) by a length over five furlongs in Imin 7 2-ssec, the last half in 54 2-ssec. This was an exceptionally good gallop. Royal Money is again working in his best style. Gold Robe (Preston) ran an easy six furlongs in Imin 29 2-ssec. He was anxious to do much better and is in excellent order for his engagement on Saturday. Mondello (Barclay) ran seven furlongs on her own in Imin 36 2-ssec, the first two in 26 l-ssec and the last half in 57 2-ssec.
