"BLACK” EXCHANGE MARKET
IMPORTERS’ POSITION TO BE DEFINED
(United Press Association)
WELLINGTON, April 29.
In reply to a communication asking for a clarification of the position of importers under the recently-announced restrictions applying to “black” exchange, the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand has now received the following advice from the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash): — “The Government fully appreciates the point which you have raised as to the position of persons who have entered into certain commitments before the regulations came into force and who now desire to complete the transactions involved. The problem had in fact already been recognized and I am at present investigating ways and means of overcoming such difficulties on an equitable basis. A public statement about the matter will be made at an early date.”
