MINERS MEET MR. MENZIES

PRIME MINISTER DEFERS ACTION OFFICIALS TO SEE CHIEF JUDGE SETTLEMENT LIKELY IN QUEENSLAND (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received April 30, 1.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, April 29. The Prime Minister (Mr R. G. Menzies), agreed to de- .. fer action about the coal miners’ strike until tomorrow night, after the miners’ delegation has had an interview with the Chief Judge of the Arbitration Court (Mr Justice Beeby). Meanwhile, the War Cabinet received Mr Menzie’s report on his conference with the miners’ officials and the Government’s plans are fully prepared in the event of a breakdown in the negotiations. Whatever decision is reached at Canberra, it is understood that the vast majority of Queensland coal miners are determined to call off the strike. It is authoritatively stated that within a fortnight every coal miner in the state will be back at work. It is expected that almost every mine in the Rosewood district will be working today.
