BADMINTON CLUB OFFICERS ELECTED AT ANNUAL MEETING Dr W. B. Reekie (president) presided over an attendance of nine members at the annual meeting of the Otautau Badminton Club. The report showed that the club had a fairly successful year, and was in a good financial position. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Dr W. B. Reekie; vice-presidents, Mrs W. B. O’Toole, Miss C. Hope, Messrs F. James and H. Macpherson; secretary and treasurer, Mi- H. Chandler; club captain, Mr M. Millar; committee, Misses J. Manson, C. Hope and E. Hinton, Messrs G. Low, R. Walker and M. Millar; floor committee, club captain, secretary and H. Macpherson; selection committee, Mrs O’Toole, Messrs M. Millar and H. Macpherson; signing officers, president and secretary; auditor, Dr W. B. Reekie.

It was decided that the subscription be 7/6 and 6d nightly, and that Mondays and Thursdays be playing nights. The matter of obtaining; shuttles was left in the hands of the floor committee. FAREWELL FUNCTION Before his departure from Otautau for Dunedin Mr H. Gazzard was met at an informal gathering by the members of the Otautau Bowling Club. Mr C. Steven, president, said that the time was opportune to meet an old member, whom they were all sorry to lose. He had been president of the club and this year was also president of the Southland Centre, and he had carried out his duties in a creditable manner. In asking Mr Gazzard to accept a fountain pen as a token of goodwill and esteem, Mr Steven wished him the best of luck in his new home. In endorsing these remarks Mr G. Sinclair said it was the first time in 35 years that a member of the club had been president of the Southland Centre, and Mr Gazzard had done his utmost to induce members to travel to various clubs, thereby giving them a lot of enjoyment. Mrs C. Renowden (president) on behalf of the women members, thanked Mr Gazzard for his assistance and said they would miss him. She wished him health and prosperity in the future. Mr Gazzard replied. BASKETBALL Mr H. Braxton (president) presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Otautau Basketball Club. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £l6. In his report the president stated that a successful year had been experienced, and although very few matches had been won, the girls had enjoyed themselves. The following officers were elected: President, Mr H. Braxton tern); vice-president, Messrs C. G. G. Sinclair and E. J. Leckie; secretary, Miss T. Daly; committee, all present.
