The Scotsman thinks the American nation can justly be proud of its historical novelists. The fortitude, endurance and patience which once characterized the frontiersman and pioneer have been reborn, it would seem, in that little group of writers who have been tracing in minute detail the development of the Union through the medium of the novel.
