It is always an annoyance to have the table-cover on the verandah blow up and perhaps upset a vase of flowers. Sew a little trianglar pocket on the under side of each comer and insert a weight. Add left-over curry to any soup you may be making. Chop the meat finely, add it, and the rice, and you will have a good imitation of mulligatawny soup, and be using up your left-over curry at the same time. To prevent a mat from curling at the corners, sew on with twine a strip of linoleum across both ends of the mat on the wrong side. I have done this with sea-grass mats and it is very successful. For mending broken china or glass, take a quantity of thick gum arabic solution, and stir in a quantity of plaster of Paris, until the mixture becomes a thick paste. Apply to the broken edges of the china or glass and allow to set. The whiteness of the paste is almost invisible when joined together,
