Mainly Fair (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, February 20. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong winds from a westerly quarter: a shower or two probable, but the weather mainly fair with moderate temperatures. Seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather cloudy to overcast over the northern half of the North Island, with rain developing later from the north. Elsewhere mainly fair to cloudy, but with some showers at first in Westland and Southland. Temperatures mild in the north and moderate in the south. General Situation—An anti-cyclone is situated to the north-east of New Zealand and pressure is low to the south-east. A tropical cyclone is located near Noumea and is expected to move southward or south-eastward. Winds—Gradually freshening northerly winds from Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay northward, possibly reaching gale force in the north by tomorrow night. Elsewhere strong winds from a westerly quarter, later moderating and tending southerly. Seas (N.Z. waters)— Rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits and south of Cape Egmont; elsewhere slight or moderate, but rising tomorrow off the East Cape. Eastern Tasman SeaFreshening northerly winds and slight but rising seas in the northern portion. Strong winds from a westerly quarter and rough seas in the southern portion.
