“San Francisco” Returns To Regent
“San Francisco,” which begins a return season at the Regent Theatre on Saturday, is one of the most popular films of recent years. It features Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald and Spencer Tracy in the leading roles and portrays realistically the city of San Francisco in the colourful period which ended with the great earthquake. Gable is shown as a gambler of. the Barbary Coast. Miss MacDonald is a
small-town minister’s daughter who seeks adventure in San Francisco, rises to fame in the music halls' and later in the legitimate theatre. An absorbing love story for Gable and Miss MacDonald is woven through the plot, with Miss MacDonald singing favourite songs of the past and others written for her. These range from melodies familiar to every household to the most famous operatic arias.
