STEWART ISLAND

COLDEST WEATHER FOR YEARS February, which is txsually a very warm and sunny month on Stewart Island, has this year been the wettest and coldest experienced for many years. So far the fishing fleet has been unable to begin operations, although the season opened towards the end of last month. Exceptionally high tides and heavy seas have kept the boats at anchor, but with a decided improvement now in the weather, fresh fish from Stewart Island should soon be on the market again.
