NORTHERN BEATEN AT WINTON CENTRAL-WESTERN WINS BY 36 RUNS In a representative cricket match played at Winton on Saturday, CentralWestern beat Northern by 36 runs on the first innings. The weather was ideal. For Northern A. Buckham and L, Sparks were the chief scorers and for Central-Western J. Wood and A. Cutler batted well. The Northern batsmen were dismissed for a moderate score in the first innings and CentralWestern wickets fell cheaply in the second innings. A. Wilson who beat Mrs Corbet in the final of the second life by 26 points to 12. Mrs Gerrard had three bisques against Mrs Stone. After in and out play and with two bisques gone, Mrs Gerrard had reached No 4 and 1 back, and Mrs Stone No 2 and 1 back. After that Mrs Stone had the best of the play and reached stick with one and Rover with the other ball. The final of the A grade women's singles at the South Canterbury croquet tournament resulted: First life, Mrs W. H. Kirk (Geraldine) beat Mrs H. Patchett (Timaru) 26-10.
