LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE

HEAVY ENTRY OF FAT CATTLE BIG YARDING AT DOUBLE MARKET * FAT SHEEP VALUES LOWER An unusually heavy entry of fat cattle was a feature of the Lorneville stock sale yesterday. The sale, which was a double one, was the last of the year and in the cattle section 315 animals were forward, compared with 247 at the last sale. Heavyweight and inferior .. quality cattle were easier in price, but good quality, medium and handy weight cattle realized values practically on a par with those ruling two weeks ago. The sale was a late one, the last animal being sold about eight o’clock. The fat sheep yarding was double that of last sale and, considering the size of the entry, the sale was a particularly good one. Values were about 2/- lower than the rates ruling at the previous good sale. . The following are the yardmgs in the individual sections at the last two December 19 December 5. FAT CATTLE The fat cattle yarding was the biggest for some considerable time and contained a good proportion of extra good quality cattle of all classes. Compared with last sale, heavyweight cattle of all classes were easier by about £l/10/- a head. Inferior quality cattle were also easier, but good quality medium and handyweight cattle realized values practically on a par. FAT SHEEP The large yarding of fat sheep included some extra good quality animals of all classes. Considering the size of the entry, the sale was a particularly good one, values being about 2/- lower than the rates ruling at the previous good sale. In the concluding stages of the sale, there was an easing of from 2/- to 3/-, more especially in the case of ewes, compared with the middle stages. Prime quality wethers made from 31/- to 37/9, good quality 28/- to 30/-, medium 26/- to 27/-, light and unfinished 22/- to 24/-; prime young shorn ewes, up to 32/-, prime heavyweights 26/- to 28/-, good quality 24/- to 25/-, medium 21/- to 22/-, aged and unfinished 14/- to 17/-. Considering it was the Christmas sale, the entry of fat lambs was a small one. The demand was good, especially near the e,nd of the sale, and values were about 2/- above freezing rates. SATISFACTORY MARKET

There was not a very big attendance at the fortnightly Gore stock sale yesterday. Prices were satisfactory and there was some strong competition. The yarding was made up of mostly cattle and fat heifers brought from £lO/5/- to £ll, while others sold at from £6 to £9/10/-. The prices for mediumweight steers ranged from £9 to £lO/15/-, and for lighter sorts from £6/17/6 to £7/10/-. Fat wethers sold at from 29/3 to 30/-. Sales were:—
