DEATH OF YOUNG GUNNER.

Burial With Military Honours Yesterday MEMBERS OF SPECIAL FORCE ATTEND Gunner William David Burke, aged 19 of the 23rd Heavy Battery, who was killed when he fell over a cliff at Battery Point, Lyttelton, on Saturday morning, was buried with military honours at the Eastern Cemetery yesterday afternoon. There was quite a long funeral cortege, which included members of the special force, returned soldiers and members of Class 1 of the National Military Reserve. Requiem Mass at St. Mary’s Basilica yesterday morning was celebrated by the Rev. Father Sexton, who also conducted the service at the graveside. The pall-bearers were members of the special force. The funeral left for the Eastern CemeTery from the parents’ residence in Clyde street, and proceeded round the soldiers’ memorial and along Dee street. Father Sexton conducted a short service at the graveside and Messrs E. Hunter (cornet) and V. Durant (drums) sounded “Last Post’" and “Reveille.” The parade of special force soldiers was under the charge of Major H. C. Mackenzie and Second Lieutenant V. C. Poole.
