CALDER MACKAY’S
THE GIFT HOUSE In spite of import restrictions, large and varied stocks of carpet squares and body carpets are to be seen in the showroom of the Calder Mackay Co. They are an outstanding feature of the goods on display. This firm specializes
in carpets, a fact which is quite evident when the shopper sees the remarkable range from which he or she may make her purchase.
“Craftsman”-built furniture is another outstanding feature of this year’s Christmas shopping display at Calder Mackay’s. This furniture is all made in the firm’s Invercargill factory and the quality and appearance of. house furnishings offered this Christmas would enrich any house, and give reason for pride among the workmen who have made them.
Lovers of beautiful homes who are seeking modern and artistic furniture ideas cannot go past Calder Mackay’s for inspiration. The large show rooms, upstairs and on the ground floor, have been arranged with excellent taste and the many beautiful things are so displayed that none of their attractiveness is lost.
Everyone either has, or wants, a home, and everyone is interested in home furnishings, so that the variety of attractive household goods in Calder Mackay’s is certain to attract a keen following of home lovers. Much of the furniture is made of the magnificent Southland beech and of rimu. The factory, incidentally, gives work for more than 190 employees and dependents. Calder Mackay’s is also known as the home of good radio sets and stocks the popular Mullard make of radio. The sets now in hand, will, from the standpoints of both appearance and performance, attract admirers of modern successful radio developments.
A fine flat city, Invercargill has always done its best to vie with Christchurch in the number of bicycles in use, and the display of models in Calder Mackay’s—not excluding the gay and comfortable bicycles for children—should add more to the list of those who travel on wheels. Vases, ornaments and scores of household adornments too numerous to mention add to the attractiveness of the firm’s Christmas display, which, with those of other shops, is an indication of continued prosperity.
