The Social Round

The engagement is announced of Mary Lorraine, second daughter’ of Mrs Blair Fell, of Enwood, and of the late Mr Fell, and Gilbert McMillan, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs A. W. Thom, Eye street, Invercargill. Miss G. Wilson, Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs C. P. Horne, Gala street. Mr and Mrs K. H. Smyth, Duke street, left yesterday to visit Wellington. Mr and Mrs P. W. Gresson, Albert street, will leave on Saturday to spend the holidays at Moeraki. Mrs F. H. Hughes, and her daughter Ann, Louisa street, will leave early next week for a holiday in Christchurch. Miss J. Chapman, Central Otago, will return from Wellington after Christmas, and will spend a few days in Invercargill. Mr and Mrs S. Chapman, Otago Central, will arrive on Saturday to spend the holidays with their daughter, Mrs R. McKay, Stuart street. Miss E. Hoyles will arrive from the north on Christmas Eve to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. le H. Hoyles, Herbert street. Miss Eleanor Turnbull, an old girl of St. Margaret’s College, Christchurch, has just completed her massage course in London, coming out top of all England. Visitors at the Southland Travel Club’s Christmas party last night were Mrs J. Willett, Napier, Mrs Gilmour, Wellington, and Miss G. Wilson, Dunedin. Mr and Mrs H. J. Macalister, Duke street, and Misses Patricia and Judith I Macalister, will leave at the end of the week to spend the Christmas holidays at Stewart Island. Mr and Mrs C. White-Parsons and their two children, Lewis street, will leave on Christmas Day to spend a camping holiday at Wanaka. They will be joined by Mrs Lex Grieves, of Auckland, who will return to Invercargill with them. An Invercargill artist, Miss Molly Macalister, Dalrymple: street, has shared in the modelling of two panels, to be erected at either side of the doorway of
the Education Court at the Centennial Exhibition. The panels are six feet, six inches high, and three feet wide and were designed by Mr Shurrock, modelling teacher of the School of Art in Christchurch. Assisted by two pupils, Miss Macalister and Mrs R. Bevin, of Christchurch, Mr Shurrock worked all the last term on the panels which were completed about a fortnight ago. They were cast in Christchurch and then taken to Wellington.
