PRECAUTIONS SCHEME AT AUCKLAND
ORGANIZATION NEARLY COMPLETE (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 18. The comprehensive emergency precaution scheme which was put in hand at the outbreak of war to operate in the event of Auckland being subjected to enemy attack is in the final stages of organization. Under the scheme all services and supplies will be co-ordin-ated in an emergency and transport will be impressed for evacuation while personnel is being arranged to ensure the smooth functioning of every field of activity. It was reported at a meeting of technical officers’ executive of the Auckland metropolitan emergency precaution organization tonight that the scheme would be completed early in the New Year. It was then proposed that a booklet of information and instructions would be issued to householders advising them of the course of action to be followed in an emergency.
The principal report submitted to the meeting detailed where emergency hospitals would be established in the event of an air raid and how medical services and supplies would be at call. Another report advised proposals planned to control such services as electricity, gas, communications, fuel and water. A further report dealt with arrangements for transportation to ensure the prompt evacuation of the city and suburbs, at the same time permitting commerce to be carried on as normally as possible.
