SLIGHT DROP IN REVENUE
FEWER PERSONS USE RAILWAYS MORE MONEY FROM GOODS CARRIED IN PROVINCE Railway revenue in Southland for the four-weekly period ended December 9 shows a decrease of £304 compared with the figure for the corresponding period last year. The traffic over the Southland section for that period shows a slight reduction in all but two branches. The passengers carried were fewer by 5182 and revenue from this source decreased by £1489. Fewer cattle were carried but there was an increase in the number of sheep. Goods carried by rail during the four-weekly period brought in mon, revenue than for the same period last year. This year £34,808 came from this source, compared with £33,526 in 1938, an increase of £1282. Details of the traffic conveyed over the Southland section during the four weeks ended December 9, with the figures for the corresponding period last year, are as follows:— TRAFFIC
