INVERCARGILL CLUB’S COMPETITION DENHAM CUP WON BY n. McWilliams

The Invercargill Defence Rifle Club’s competition for the Denham Cup was fired on Saturday afternoon in fine weather and resulted in a splendid exhibition of high grade marksmanship. The cup was won by N. McWilliams with, the excellent score of 104 out of the possible 105. The point he dropped was on his sixth shot at 300 yards. His shot-for-shot range scores were: 300yds, 555 5 5 4 5—34; 500yd5,.5 555 5 5 5 —35; 600yds, 555 5 5 5 5 —35. W. Milley topped the list at 300yds with the possible. At 500yds F. Mayhew and N. McWilliams made possibles while nine others dropped only one point for 34 each. At 600yds N. McWilliams again made the possible while four others made 34 each. W. Milley was runner-up for the cup with 102. J. Archer and G. Wilson 101 each and R. B. Wood 100. The top 10 averaged exactly 100 each, an excellent club average.

A. FORD WINS THREE-RANGE

The City Guards Defence Rifle Club fired a handicap competition for Christmas trophies on Saturday afternooni at Otatara, seven shots being fired at 300, 500 and 600 yards. The conditions were good and the standard of shooting was high. At 300 yards A. Ford was top with 5 4 5 5 5 5 5—34, J. Brydon 5 5 5 4 5 5 5 —34 was second and B. Broomfield 5 5 5 5 5 4 5—34 was third. At 500 yards D. Wishart, J. Brydon, J. Tansley and W. McChesney tied for first place with the possible 5 5 5 a 5 5 5 35. Five 34’s were also registered. D. Wishart was top at 600 yards with 5 5 4 5 5 5 5—34 counting out Ford and Tansley each' with 5555 5 5 4 34. _ Ford headed the day’s aggregate with a good 34, 34, 34—102. Tansley with 32, 35 34—101 was second, J. Brydon 34 35 32 —101 third and B. Broomfield fourth with. 34, 34, 32—100. D. Wishart won the first prize in the handicap comS'"‘mi, winning with a four bull at 600 yards. The other prize winners were J. W. Doake, L. Braid, B. Walker, B. Henderson, J. Brydon, V. Mathieson, Mrs J. B. Doake, A. Ford, L. Wilson, B. Broomfield, R. W. Henderson and L. Woodsford. Following are the results:—
