ANNUAL PICNIC AT GLENKENNICH LARGE ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL GROUNDS The annual picnic at Glenkennich was held on the school ground and was attended by a large crowd. Races for children and adults were held during the afternoon. The results of the adult events and competitions were: Young women’s race (15 to 17 years), Frances Anderson 1; Young women’s race (18 to 21), Lily Maxwell 1; young men’s race (18 to 21), Douglas Crossan 1; young women (over 22), Miss Wither 1; young men (over 22), George Crossan 1; married women (under 40), Mrs W. Divers; married women (over 40), Mrs T. Crossan; married men (under 40), W. Spittle; married men (over 40), T. Crossan; double harness, Mavis Crossan and G. Crossan; double harness, Mrs Shirley and J. Irving; elopement race, Mrs Taylor and W. Spittle; egg and spoon race, Sylvia McNoe; women’s chain stepping, Miss I. Jenkins; men’s chain stepping, W. Ritchie; women’s quoits, Mrs J. Kerse; men’s quoits, D. Crossan. DANCE IN HALL In the evening a dance was held in the Kelso Public Hall when there was a large attendance. Music was played by Messrs A. McCall and D. Harvey, and extras were played by Miss M. Kerse, Messrs L. Roberts and R. Kirk Mr D. Crossan was master of ceremonies. ’ Miss T. Black and Mr R. Pringle won the lucky spot waltz, annd Miss J. Cleghorn and partner won the Monte Carlo. SCHOOL CONCERT The annual school concert was held in the Waikoikoi Hall. The hall was filled and the large audience appreciated an excellent programme of items given entirely by the children. Recitations, songs, dialogues and short plays (in which the children wore appropriate costumes), drill, and two marionette shows were all excellently performed, and reflected credit alike on the children and their teacher. At the conclusion of the programme, a hearty vote of thanks moved by Mr D. McCall, was carried to the teacher, children, and all who had assisted with the concert. After supper a dance was held to music supplied by Messrs A. McCall and D. Harvey. Mr E. Reid acted as master of ceremonies. The programme was as 'follows: Christmas song, “Men in the Moon”;' dialogue, “The Whisker”; recitation, C. Robertson, D. McCall; drill, standards 1 and 2; dialogue, “Little boy lost”; songs, “Kookooburra,” “Moon Boat,” and “Kangaroo Song”; recitations, J. Trusler and R. Bennett; “Milly Molly Keeps House” (marionette figures); “The Woodcutter’s Wishes” (dialogue); duet, J. Crawford and D. Stark; dialogue, “Molly’s Wish”; dialogue, “The Happy Man’s Shirt”; songs, “Polly Wolly Doodle,” “Codfish Ball”; drill, standards 3 and 6; reciation, A. McKenzie; “The Old Woman and the Pedlar” (marionettes); songs, Billy Stark, D. Scott, A. McKenzie and J. Burnett; dialogue, “The Test”; songs, ‘Hang Out the Washing on the Seigfried Line,” “Good Night.”
