ARCHERFIELD The end of the year ceremony and exhibition of work was held at Archerfield, Dunedin, last week, the function taking place in the school grounds. The many parents and friends who were present took full advantage of the opportunity to see over the school. The co-head prefect, Nancy Just, was in the chair. The school report dealing with tile activities of the year was presented by Mavine Ross (co-head prefect), and Ngaire Skinner spoke of some of the experience gained. The results of the house competition were: Conduct, Nisbet; punctuality, Elgin; work, Burris; sport, Elgin; uniform, Elgin, House Cup, Elgin. After this ceremony the visitors were free to inspect the various exhibitions of work and attend the programme of plays and the mannequin parade. In one room were displayed all the school books and projects. The large number of travel and country books showed the keen interest taken in the people of other countries. Three of these projects were particularly good—a world map illustrating current affairs compiled and kept up to date by Form IV, a history frieze of the life, buildings, people and foreign interests from the eleventh to thirteen centuries, and two maps of the Empire in diagram form. There was a large display of handwork and fine arts of all kinds, including weaving, basketwork, modelling leatherwork, linocuts and pottery. The poster work and drawing snowed considerable talent and originality. The exhibition of hobbies was interesting, outstanding among the exhibits being a music scrapbook compiled by a Sixth Form girl, and an anthology of poetry belonging to two Third Form girls. The model flat was open for inspection, and in the dining room the table was laid with an attractive luncheon prepared by the girls. During the afternoon two plays by seniors and juniors were presented, and a mannequin parade gave the girls an opportunity of displaying garments made throughout the year. Later in the afternoon a display of drill and dancing was given by the whole school.
