QUEENSTOWN

ARRANGEMENTS MADE FOR REGATTA The annual meeting of the Queenstown Regatta Committee decided to hold the regatta on Easter Saturday. The election of office-bearers resulted: Patrons, Sir Robert Anderson, Messrs John Mackenzie and Dickson Jardine; president, Mr J. C. Scott (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs H. C. Buckham, L. Lynch, W. D. Warren and Dr W. A. Anderson; secretary, Mr M. T. Robertson; judges, outrigger events, Messrs C. M. Inglis, L. J. Lynch, A. N. Macdonald; It was resolved to submit to the Otago Rowing Association the names of Mr E. V. Fairbairn as starter and Mr W. B. Robinson as umpire and timekeeper; executive, Messrs C. M. Inglis, N. M. Hall, P. Tomkies, J. S. Royds, A. N. Macdonald, T. H. Tallentire, and L. R. Lewis; auditor, Mr A. F. Griffen. The following is the programme for the forthcoming regatta: Maiden double sculls, youths fours, junior double sculls, senior double sculls, maiden fours, youths double sculls, junior fours, maiden pairs, senior fours, youths pairs, junior pairs, senior pairs. The prizemoney for these events is to be the same as last year. It was decided that entries for events should close on March 13, 1940. DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB

The third competition for the President’s Trophy and the P. Reid Championship Aggregate was fired during the week-end at 500 and 600 yards and a Cup shoot c.t 300 yards. Results:—

Cup shoot at 30yds.—F. W. Bailey 33, L. C. Veint 33, E. J. T.owen 31, R. N. Grant 27, G. D. Cochrane 23, C. Hansen 22, D. R. Gray 21. F. W. Bailey won the Simpson Button.

BALFOUR CRICKET MATCH Played under difficult conditions the competition match, Balfour B v. Balfour A, resulted in a draw. Rain caused several stoppages during the course of the game. The A team declared at 171 runs for the loss of five wickets. L. Mulqueen 61 retired, was top scorer, his strike including two fours end one six. T. Muiqueen, 46 retired, including three fours, D. McLean, 25 not out, P. Mulqueen 14 and A. Richards 11, were the other good scorers. The opening partnership, T. Mulqueen and L. Mulqueen, realized 109 runs.

Bowling for Balfour B Savage, one for 5, was the most successful. Balfour B fared badly at the wicket, five batsmen being out for 16 runs. Bowling for Balfour A P. Dwyer took two wickets for one run; R. Gillespie one for 4 and Sparks one for 4, also bowled well. SUB-ASSOCIATION MEETING At a meeting of the Northern District Cricket Sub-Association it was decided to enter a team for Country Day. Mr L. J. Sparks was appointed sole selector in place of Mr D. Andrew who has left the district Mr Sparks was also appointed captain of the team for Country Day. Mr A. J. Heath, Lumsden, was appointed to represent the sub-associa-tion on the management committee of the Southland Cricket Association. It was decided to nominate Mr Heath as an umpire for Country Day. There were present: Messrs O. Gardinei (president), P. Gilkison and J. Kelly, secretary (Riversdale); Messrs P. Mulqueen, J. Dwyer and L. J. Sparks (Balfour).
