SOVIET THREAT TO CHINA
RECOGNITION OF OUTER MONGOLIA DEMANDED
(Received December 12, 9.55 p.m.) NEW YORK, December 11. The Shanghai correspondent of The New York Times, discussing China’s reluctance to offend the Soviet with an adverse vote at Geneva, reports that power politics in the Far East are assuming a new phase. Chungking sources report that Moscow is coupling dilatory tactics in parleys with Tokyo with intimations that the time has arrived for China formally to recognize the independence of the Outer Mongolian Soviet Republic and formally to relinquish Chinese claims to sovereignty, hinting that if China does not the Soviet supplies of arms' and aircraft will diminish. CONTROL OF EXPORT TRADE IMPROVEMENTS SUGGESTED BY INDUSTRIALISTS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, December 11. The Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain), with the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon), and the President of the Board of Trade (Mr Oliver Stanley) received a deputation from the Federation of British Industries and heard the federation’s views on improvements of the existing machinery relating to export trade. Mr Chamberlain, in reply to the deputation, said that he did not think the appointment of a separate Minister for Economic Questions would be advantageous in the existing circumstances and it was agreed that Mr Stanley would communicate immediately with the federation in order to discuss the possibility of improving the existing machinery by appointing an advisory panel.
