SPECIAL CENTENNIAL SERVICES

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN SOUTHLAND Permission to hold special services on the afternoon of March 10, 1940, was granted to the Presbytery of Southland by the Invercargill City Council last evening. The services are to be held in conjunction with the centenary celebrations of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. In a letter to the council the Presbytery of Southland wrote that it was desired to conduct functions as follows: (1) A thanksgiving service in the city on Sunday March 10, at 2.30 p.m., with the various city and suburban Presbyterian congregations rallying at the Bank of New South Wales corner where the first religious services were held; then a procession up Dee and Gala streets to Queen’s Park, where the service will be continued. “It is proposed to invite the Pipe and Battalion bands to assist and if' possible the boys’ bands of the Southland Boys’ High School and Technical College,” said the letter. “A sub-com-mittee will wait upon the band masters of the two senior bands to begin with and consult with them. If wet, the procession will go to First Church.” (2) A function in Stobo Hall on Thursday evening, March 14 to take the form of a social gathering with a historic flavour; and a short programme with sundry talks reminiscent of early days by sundry speakers, some of whom will be selected to give a lead,
