SUMMER LIGHT TESTS THE COMPLEXION

The strong clear light of summer reveals unmercifully all flaws in the complexion. It is useless trying to hide these with powder. On the contrary, a thorough daily treatment should be tried which should gradually make the skin elastic, alive and young. Clean the face every evening. Smear some good cleansing cream on the face and neck. Let it remain for a couple of minutes and then wipe off with a piece of cotton wool dipped in face lotion. Soap is apt to dry the skin of the face, and, moreover, the soap removes only the surface dirt, while the cleansing cream penetrates into the pores and removes all impurities. Besides this, the face lotion clears the skin, smoothes the wrinkles, and closes the pores.

Give the skin nourishment. For this a good nourishing cream (a skin food) is necessary. Rub it on the face and neck and massage it into the skin. It is important that this massage is done correctly. It should be done as follows:— 1. Massage with the two first finger tips from the chin up to the cheek bones, and then outwards and up from the nostrils to the temples. 2. With the three first fingers of the right hand srpooth up along the nose, following this up with the left hand. Finish by stroking across the forehead with both hands.

3. Massaging round the eyes must be done with great care, moving in big circles round the eyes. Start at the root of the nose, going up and out. Avoid the outer corner of the eyes and return under the eye to the starting place. Use plenty of cream and the finger tips will then glide more lightly.

4. With one hand after the other, smooth the neck with upward movements, afterwards slapping gently under the chin with the back of the hand.

5. A rotary movement with the two middle fingers of each hand; up, in, down, out, first over the chin, up over the corners of the mouth to the nose, and then blow out the cheeks and slap the whole face with the finger tips.
