NEW FABRICS FOR SUMMER FOUNDATIONS

Think back to the days when men sweltered from Demember to February in winter-weight suits, and women wore cashmere hose and button-up boots. Think of the days when living rooms were hung with heavy draperies even in the height of summer. And, if you think back far enough, you recall dressed-up little boys and girls playing at the seaside in .long black woollen stockings and white sailor suits. Progress has certainly put people and their houses into cool summer dress—and taught us how to really enjoy summer! Today, fur coats are hardly in mothballs before strenuous summer buying begins . . . toe-peeper shoes, sheer summer dresses, cool, lightweight foundations! How we rush for them! Lightweight foundations . . yes! But it does not mean good-bye control. Nowadays it is as easy to be slim and well-groomed in January as it is in June. There are special summer controlling fabrics to see that we are! And their beauty, as well as their lightness and efficiency, is something to marvel at.

This summer, two brand new ones make their appearance. First . . Skintex, a very fine stretchable fabric, with extra restraining bands woven in to take the place of bones at the back of the foundation. It is a boon for the medium-heavy figure. For slimmer figures there is poise-flex, a beautifully, silky and porous fabric, as supple as skin. Stretching satins are, of course, always easy to slip into, and cool and comfortable to move in. And there is tropic mesh, or nett, too. Some, have innerbelt features for really heavy abdominal control. One of the nice things about this cotton mesh is that it absorbs perspiration beautifully, so that it never allows you to feel clammy. So, all in all, we are well catered for this summer—any of those fabrics are cool enough for the tropics, yet controlling enough to have a place in corset wardrobes all the year round. Some of the new foundations have gone the “snow-white” way. Cool and lovely, they look. Very young-making in its psychology, too, is white!
