WAIRIO CLUB’S MEETING

Interesting Card To Be Presented FOURTH MEETING TODAY INTEREST IN JUVENILE STAKES The Wairio Trotting Club will hold its fourth annual non-totalizator meeting today, and as the fields are probably the best yet received by the club, a record meeting is promised. Since its establishment in 1936 the club has made excellent progress and its annual fixture is now one of the most popular nontotalizator gatherings on the calendar. The majority of horses produced are engaged at the coming holiday meetings and more than ordinary interest will be shown in their form. The first race is to start at 1 p.m. Some interest will be shown in the decision of the Juvenile Stakes, in which a good field of three-year-olds will be making its first appearance in public. Practically all are engaged in the Winton Juvenile Stakes, to be decided during the holidays, and an interesting race should result. Margaret Arion is an Arion Axworthy filly expected to give a good account of herself while a high opinion is held of Turco, a colt by Rey de Oro from Wrackoda, by Wrack from a fine pony pacer in Soda. The others in this field are a well-bred collection and a youngster above the average may be unearthed. The chief event today is the Wairio Trotting Club Handicap, in which several improvers will be making their first attempt over two miles. .Yon Van’s form earlier in the season gives him a great chance while Stanza, Drumbunnif and Loyalist are likely to make a race of it. The remaining events have also filled well. The acceptances are as follows: OHAI TRIAL HANDICAP. Class 3.49. One mile and a-half.
