SECOND BORSTAL ESCAPEE
ARREST IN CHRISTCHURCH YESTERDAY The second of the inmates who escaped from the Invercargill Borstal Institution three weeks ago has been recaptured in Christchurch. He was charged with escaping from lawful custody in the Magistrate’s Court at Christchurch yesterday and was remanded. Appearing on remand from November 23, Claude Byron Hill, who was arrested previously, was charged before Mr H. ',W. Bundle, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Dunedin on Thursday with escaping from lawful custody at the Invercargill Borstal Institution. Chief Detective Holmes appeared for the police, and Mr C. J..L. White represented the accused. Asking for a remand to enable the accused to be medically examined, Mr White said that the youth had an appalling list of offences, and it appeared that he was fast becoming a tragic case. He had been asked by the youth’s father to seek a remand so that, the accused could be medically examined. He asked that the case be adjourned until December 11. The Magistrate granted the adjournment, and ordered the accused to be remanded in custody and kept apart from other prisoners. There would be no objection to the accused’s being examined by an alienigt.
