BODY OF MAN FOUND IN RIVER MOUTH
WOMAN THOUGHT TO HAVE MET SIMILAR FATE
(United Press Association) HOKITIKA, December 1. Christopher Pope, a prospector, aged 30 years, left Bruce Bay on November 5 to walk to Jackson’s Bay, accompanied by a young woman, Kathleen Murphy. The body of Pope was found at the mouth of the Paringa river today; he had apparently been drowned. Nothing is known of the whereabouts of the young woman and it is feared she has met a similar fate. The body is being removed to Bruce Bay for the inquest. ATTACK ON MAIL SUPERVISOR SEVERE HEAD WOUNDS SUFFERED (United Press Association) HAMILTON, December 1. Suffering from severe wounds on the head and bleeding profusely, G. H. Coulam, aged 45 years, mail supervisor, of Frankton, was found lying on the road near his home last night. Coulam stated that he had been attacked by two men. He believed a crowbar had been used. The injured man was admitted to hospital. l His condition is not serious. CAR SOMERSAULTS OVER BANK THREE OCCUPANTS ESCAPE WITH BRUISES (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, December 1. Last evening a car driven by J. G. Anderson, rector of the South Otago High School, went over the bank at Clarendon, somersaulting into a hedge. The three occupants escaped with bruises. MOTOR-CYCLIST CRASHES INTO BRIDGE (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, December 1. Cyril Hunter sustained a fractured skull when his motor-cycle crashed into the Henley Bridge. His condition is serious. INJURIES~TO EAR William Brown, a married man, residing at Conon street, was admitted to the Southland Hospital yesterday suffering from injuries to the left ear received when he fell.
