HANDEL’S “MESSIAH”
The Southland Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union music classes are combining in presenting a recital at the Civic Theatre, Invercargill, on Wednesday, December 13, beginning at 8 p.m. The continuity factor will be featured at this recital, beginning with early English folk songs and folk carols, a pleasant item will then be presented in a folk dance done in costume. English madrigals, male choruses and Henry Purcell's music will also be evident
With Miss C. McConnell, of Mataura, acting as producer, a comedy scene from Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” also done in costume, will be another special feature at’ the recital. The chief choruses from Handel’s “Messiah” will be sung by the combined classes, the soloists being: Soprano, Miss Ellen Sheat; contralto, Miss Mary Pratt, of Dunedin; tenor, Mr James Simpson; base, the Rev. N. F. Sansom.
